Silty clay samples taken 9.5 m beneath ground level from Shahu in Wuhan were mainly tested. Firstly
the high pressure consolidometer was used to conduct the

consolidation tests for both samples of natural silty clay and those of remoulded silty clay respectively. Secondly
stress controlled triaxial shear device was also used to test the samples of natural and remoulded silty clay along different loading paths under different drainage conditions. All testing data were analyzed and studied in detail. Experimental results show that: 1) natural silty clay is overconsolidated soil with OCR and lateral pressure coefficient being 1.2 and 0.56 respectively
and its structure yield strength is a little bit bigger than its preconsolidation pressure; 2) initial elastic m
odulus and shear strength of the natural soil are both higher than corresponding values of the remoulded soil; 3) for triaxial shearing under consolidated drainage conditions
the diltancy values causing volume increment of natural samples are usually smaller than the corresponding values of remtsiltoulded soil samples; but for triaxial shearing under consolidated undrainage status
the diltancy tendency for volume increment of the natural soil samples is more obvious than the corresponding diltancy tendency of the remoulded soil samples.
