To address the complex fault transients and limited high-impedance fault identification capability in ring-type flexible DC distribution networks
a longitudinal protection scheme based on high-order polynomial fitting of circuit-breaker currents is proposed. First
the steady-state and transient characteristics of breaker currents under different fault conditions are analyzed. Then
circuit-breaker currents are used as characteristic quantities
and high-order polynomial fitting is applied to extract current variation coefficients. Based on these coefficients
fault identification and fault-pole selection criteria are established. Finally
a ring-type flexible DC distribution network model is built in MATLAB/Simulink to verify the proposed method. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides fast and selective protection
enabling reliable fault-line identification and fault-pole selection. In addition
it exhibits strong tolerance to transition resistance
as well as good high-impedance fault detection and anti-interference performance.
