The coupling coal-fired power generating technology can not only significantly increase the efficiency of utilization of biomass and combustible solid waste
but also reduce the CO_2 emission from the unit. It is an important approach for transformation and low-carbon development of coal-fired power plants in future. In this study
development status and project cases for the coupling coal-fired power generating technology were presented in detail. The safe
environmental and economic effects of coupling on the coal-fired power plants were analyzed. The results show that
the direct coupling coal-fired power generating technology is appropriate to the units with low coupling ratio and low Cl and F contents in feedstocks
whereas the indirect coupling coal-fired power generating technology is suitable for the units with high coupling ratio
and high contents of heavy metals
Cl and F in feedstocks. There is no policy risk for the parallel coupling coal-fired power generating. But the system optimization is necessary for improving the economical efficiency of this coupling mode. At present
the deficiencies in policy support and standard specification are the main problems for the coupling coal-fired power generating technology.
