As a cutting-edge high-efficiency combustion technology for carbon capture to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
pressurized oxy-fuel co-combustion has attracted worldwide attention. Experimental investigations were conducted to figure out the combustion characteristics and sulfur transformation in pressurized oxy-fuel cocombustion of pulverized coal and wheat straw. Analysis from thermogravimeter indicates that blending of straw into coal is beneficial to improve the combustion characteristics and facilitate the completion of the combustion stage
illustrating the feasibility of straw-coal blends as the potential highly-reactive composite-fuel. Both operation pressure and temperature displayed limited influence on the combustion characteristics of the blends. The research of mixture ratio on crystal phase
micro-structure
and elemental content of the ash residue help to explain the sulfur transformation during the combustion process
inferring that blending biomass into coal for co-combustion can effectively reduce the emissions of sulfur compounds. These results show the importance of understanding the impact of operating parameters on sulfur-containing products transformation in pressurized oxy-fuel conditions
which will help to facilitate the application of pressurized oxy-fuel co-combustion technology in large-scale boilers.
