Counter flow natural ventilation cooling towers are susceptible to environmental winds
resulting in performance deterioration.Based on the relevant industry standards
this paper conducted a real tower test on the inlet and outlet parameters of a natural ventilation wet counterflow tower for an active power plant. It carried out a comprehensive monitoring of the cooling tower's inlet and outlet parameters
including the dry and wet bulb temperature of the air at tower inlet
water temperature at tower inlet
air temperature at tower outlet
water temperature at tower outlet and the temperature above and under the packing.Through collation of the cooling tower test data
the ventilation and thermal performance of the cooling tower was analyzed
and characteristics of the cooling tower in summer were analyzed specially. Moreover
the effects of optimization measures such as air deflectors
air ducts
and non-uniform arrangement of packing on the cooling tower ventilation and thermal performance were compared and analyzed. The results show that
the presence of cross wind affected the circumferential air entrance
resulting in uneven temperature above the water separator for cooling tower. The performance of the cooling tower can be improved by installing air deflectors
air ducts
and non-uniform arrangement of packing.Taking the high-speed flow condition with double-pump in summer as an example
when the wind speed reached 3.2 m/s
the uniformity of the inlet air increased by 36.7%
and the temperature uniformity above the water separator increased by 10.5%.When the wind speed was close to 4 m/s
the cooling performance improved by 8.7%.The result has certain reference value for structural improvement of cooling towers in similar power plants.
