With the increasing capacity of new energy power generation grids
the volatility and intermittent nature of new energy power generation output has an effect on stable operation of the power grid. Thermal power plants need to frequently participate in deep peak shaving to ensure the safety of power grid operation
resulting in a sharp increase in peaking pressure of thermal power plants. In this regard
this paper summarizes the current situation of conventional thermal power units participating in power grid peak shaving and related auxiliary service policies issued in some regions. It lists the existing demonstration projects of energy storage systems in China to participate in power grid peak shaving
and summarizes the applicable power grid adjustment
peak energy storage technology and capacity allocation methods commonly used in energy storage systems.
