Indirect co-firing power generation based on circulating fluidized bed(CFB) gasification technology is becoming the dominant technology of utilizing biomass in coal-fired power plants in China. The applications of CFB gasification-based indirect biomass co-firing technologies for electricity generation around the world are reviewed. The major technical features of biomass gasification-based co-firing systems applied in European and Chinese pulverized coal-fired power plants are systematically compared. The main experiences in the operation and design of the indirect co-firing systems
key technical issues as well as economics of the applications are in-depth analyzed and evaluated. It shows that biomass fuel properties have significant effect on the equipping
design and operation of the product gas systems
co-firing low caloric value fuel gas with a higher co-firing ratio leads to higher requirements for the design of the fuel gas combustion system and operation control of the combustion of the boiler. Against the particularities of Chinese coal-fired power plants in using crop straws
low capacity factor
and in-furnace deeply low NOx combustion
suggestions on important issues like the effects of fuel properties and high co-firing ratio are put forward.
