Interrupted holes are added to the conventional wave-fins of direct air-cooled single-row tube to enhance heat transfer. The three-dimensional numerical simulation on two kinds of finned tube models with and without interrupted holes was performed by Fluent software. The effects of fin pitch on the heat transfer
flow resistance and overall performance of the two finned tubes at four facing velocities(1.4 m/s
2.2 m/s
3.0 m/s
3.8 m/s) were studied. The results show that
compared with the wavy-finned tubes with no holes
the wavy-finned tubes with interrupted holes increase the air-side heat transfer coefficient by 1%~18% at various fin pitches and facing velocities
and the flow resistance slightly reduces. In the smaller facing velocity range
adding interrupted holes can reduce the optimal fin pitch under the same working conditions.
