The Fluent software was adopted to study the combustion characteristics of a 600 MW unit opposed boiler
which was fueled with three different blended coals. On this basis
the combustion optimization was carried out. The simulation results show that
the velocity and temperature field distribution is symmetric when the blended coal was burned. With the same secondary air flux
a too large or too small ratio of mass flow rate of inner secondary air to outer secondary air will increase the emission of NO_x. At a specific ratio of mass flow rate of inner secondary air to outer secondary air
there is an optimal outer secondary air vane angle(30°). The emission of NO_x increases with the average calorific value of the coal as fired. Once the average calorific value of the blended coal exceeds25 122 k J/kg
the coal is not suitable for this boiler. The results can provide some references for the combustion optimization and adjustment for the same type boilers firing different coal blends.
