Abstract This paper introduces a computer-based montioring system applied to the failure diagnosis of boiler waterwall.According to the principles of intercommunication pattern

the hardware structure that should be organized for an optimum and minimum instrrmentation system in the light of actual sitration of unit can be elastically designed. Moreover

according to the theory of software engineering

a suit of computer software system

which possesses multifunction like data acquisition & processing

network protocal & on-line monitoring

over-limit alarm & failure analysis and graphic display & report forms printing etc

has been designed. This computer software has many advantages

such as friendly user interface and high portability. This computer monitoring system has been successfully applied to Pingwei Power Plant.
