Although the grid-forming static var generator (GFM-SVG) possesses excellent transient voltage support capabilities
it is also responsible for steady-state reactive power support during actual operation
and the occupation of regulating capacity restricts the utilization of its transient voltage support potential. In order to fully exploit the transient voltage support potential of the GFM-SVG
a synergistic cooperation mechanism between the GFM-SVG and static reactive resources
such as capacitors
must be constructed
enabling capacitors to assume the reactive power support task during the steady-state phase and reducing the amount of regulating resources occupied by the GFM-SVG. First
the reactive power-voltage response characteristics of the GFM-SVG are considered
and the reactive power control loop parameters are tuned based on small-signal stability analysis. Second
a dynamic and static reactive power source timing synergistic cooperation method is constructed to maximize the support capability of capacitors during the steady-state phase and to achieve rapid regulation synergy of the GFM-SVG during the transient phase. Third
an optimal phase-switching strategy is proposed to minimize reactive power and voltage perturbations. Finally
the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is validated through electromagnetic transient simulations. The simulation results demonstrate that the strategy can be adopted to significantly suppress reactive power and voltage fluctuations
thereby fully exploiting the transient support capability of the GFM-SVG.
