To meet the demand for testing material mechanical properties under constant high strain rate loading over short time scales and to address the challenge of precise control of stress waves at high strain rates
this paper combines high-speed camera technology with the digital image correlation method. By employing precise stress wave control based on magnetic pulse driving
a quasi-constant high strain rate loading system is developed
and experimental investigations on material mechanical properties under high strain rates are conducted. The results show that
through the construction of a dynamic simulation model
the obtained quasi-constant stress waveform at high strain rate is a decaying trapezoidal wave with an amplitude of 80 MPa and a pulse width of 30 μs
enabling a quasi-constant strain rate of 3 000 s-1 and a high strain rate rising rate during the tensile process. A pulsed power generator based on fundamental wave and harmonic superposition is designed
which produces a decaying trapezoidal current waveform with a peak current of 243 kA and a half-wave pulse width of 30 μs at a charging voltage of 8 kV. Uniaxial tensile experiments are performed on a 7075-T651 aluminum alloy specimen with dimensions of 6 mm × 2 mm×1 mm. The specimen achieves a quasi-constant strain rate of 3 000 s-1 within 20 μs. This work provides a valuable reference for accurate testing of material mechanical properties under high strain rate conditions.
