Electric erosion bearing damage caused by inverter-induced has become a primary cause of bearing failures. Bearing discharge can lead to metal surface melting
pitting
and grooving
which seriously affect the reliable operation of motors. In order to thoroughly investigate the mechanisms of bearing electrical erosion and evaluate bearing damage under various operating parameters
the discharge measurement platform capable of simulating actual operating conditions was built for single rolling bearing in this paper. The simulated actual operating conditions included voltage type
power supply frequency
speed
temperature
radial and axial force
while covering a wide operating range. Furthermore
this paper proposed a bearing electric erosion quantitative evaluation method based on bearing voltage waveform. The discharge location was determined using wavelet transform technology
while the bearing capacitance and breakdown voltage were obtained online from single discharge waveforms
thereby enabling the calculation of discharge energy. The discharge times and discharge power in unit time were taken as the evaluation indexes. This method enabled in-situ measurement of electrical erosion without requiring any modification to the bearing housing. Finally
the variation patterns of discharge events under different operating parameters of typical bearings were analyzed
along with their potential causes. This paper helps to evaluate the electrical erosion risk of typical bearing operation mode and improve the reliability of bearing.
