This study proposes an integrated thermodynamic power generation system with a cascaded organic Rankine cycle (ORC) and Kalina cycle
which is incorporated into a parabolic trough solar collector-driven proton exchange membrane electrolyzer hydrogen production system to address grid integration challenges associated with large-scale solar power generation. The proposed methodology achieves efficient hydrogen energy storage and large-scale combined heat and power generation based on multi-stage energy utilization and energy grade matching optimization. The feasibility of the system is evaluated from energy
exergy and economic perspectives
with a sensitivity analysis conducted on critical operational parameters. Multi-objective optimization is performed using an artificial neural network integrated with a non-dominated genetic algorithm-II. Under design conditions
the system achieves a hydrogen production efficiency of 70.32%
energy efficiency of 40.07%
exergy efficiency of 8.12%
and a cost rate of 38.60 $/h. Increasing the isentropic efficiency of the ORC turbine results in a gradual increase in hydrogen production. This study can provide a reference for hydrogen production from solar power generation and multi-energy co-production.
