In order to realize brushless excitation for the conventional electrical excitation synchronous generator(EESG)
an induced and rectified brushless excitation synchronous generator(IRBESG) was proposed. The iron core of the novel generator is the same with that of the conventional EESG. When the DC current was injected into the stator excitation winding
the magnetic field produced by the currents of the rotor was added in the air gap to induce the voltage in the armature coils. This method combined the merits of induction excitation and exciter excitation. The structure
winding arrangement and the operating principle of DRBESG was introduced. The excitation principle of the rotor currents was studied theoretically. The waveforms of the output voltage and characteristic of voltage regulation were simulated by Ansys Maxwell. A 1.5 kVA prototype was studied to verify the theoretical and simulated analysis.
