In order to investigate the mechanism and the beneficial effect of geogrid-reinforced pile-supported foundation
four comparative model tests were carried out
including unreinforced and no-pile foundation
geogrid-reinforced foundation
pile-supported foundation without geogrid
geogrid-reinforced and pile-supported foundation. The mechanism of geogrid-reinforced pile-supported foundation was described by comparing the results of the tests. The measured and computed results were compared and discussed
and then three-dimensional coupled mechanical and hydraulic numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the beneficial effect of geogrid-reinforced pile-supported foundation. The results show that the vertical displacement of geogrid- reinforced and pile-supported foundation are smaller than that of other cases
while the bearing capacity is larger than that of others. The pile-soil stress ratio of geogrid-reinforced pile-supported foundation is less than that of pile-supported foundation without geogrid under the same loading. With the increase of the spacing between piles
the vertical displacement of geogrid-reinforced and pile-supported foundation increases
while the pile-soil stress ratio decrease. With the increase of geogrid stiffness
the vertical displacement of geogrid-reinforced and pile-supported foundation decrease
