As an efficient and cost-effective compaction technique
the impact roller compaction method has been widely used in the ground improvement of subgrade or soft subsoil of many kinds of projects and is gradually applied to other new fields. An experimental study was made
which focused on the suitability and construction technique of eliminating silt liquefaction using impact roller compaction. During the trial programme several items such as surface settlement and excess pore water pressure were monitored
and in-situ tests such as standard penetration test (SPT) and cone penetration test (CPT) were carried out. The results show that after 20 passes of impact roller compaction the liquefaction of silt is eliminated and the subsoil up to the depth of 2 m is well improved. The output of this research work increases the confidence of using impact roller compaction technique in the field of shallow ground liquefaction treatment.
