The man-made bedding is a new technique for building ocean dock and platform. By using self-developed discrete element method (DEM)
the stability of single pile with embedded man-made bedding is simulated. The man-made bedding is composed of packed detritus and sand. The stability of pile is simulated for different heights of packed detritus under tide in the case of fixed height of packed sand respectively. The instability process of pile under infrequent tide is also simulated. The damping effects of seawater on pile and man-made bedding can be described by global damping. The results show that DEM can reflect the large deformation at the location of contact between pile and man-made bedding very well. The optimum height of whole man-made bedding can be determined from the results.
