When diaphragm is used in the deep excavation with complicated plan as retaining wall
three dimensional behaviors instead of two dimensional behaviors
which is often considered in empirical simplified methods
has two be considered to account for the interaction of neighbor diaphragm wall panels. By using 3D FEM to consider the interaction of neighbor diaphragm wall along with the interaction between wall and soil
the influences of different types of connection between neighbor walls including hinged joints and free end on both sides of the diaphragm wall to the bending moment and displacement of the wall with invariable and changed stiffness is studied. The analyzed results using the method presented in this paper agree well with the experimental test results. The shortages of the empirical methods using 2D FEM are pointed out by comparing the numerical analysis results with model test results. The transverse moment of the wall with hinged joints is analyzed emphatically and calculated results show that significant transverse moment can be generated under such situation and can’t be ignored.
