The conventional radial consolidation theory is based on the small strain theory
so a constant volume compressibility and a constant coefficient of horizontal permeability are assumed during the consolidation process. However
both the non-linear variations of and are as a result of reduction in void ratio during the consolidation process. The non-linear relations of - and - for normally consolidated clays can be represented by the general compressibility equation and permeability change equation
respectively. Based on Hansbo’s theory
the solution of non-linear radial consolidation of sand-drained ground is deduced and compared with Hansbo’s solution. Finally
the influence of non-linear consolidation parameter and preloading increment ratio ( ) on the consolidation process is discussed. The results show that and are two important factors which control the non-linear radial consolidation of sand-drained ground.
