In order to solve the initial surge height problem triggered by landslide in reservoir
the surge is summarized into two kinds on basis of the mechanism of landslide surge
respectively
volume-surge and impact-surge
and their heights are calculated by the volume conversation law
the continuity law of flow and viscous force formula in flow field. The volume conversation law is used to obtain the relationship between landslide volume and surge height
the continuity theory of flow is used to get the relationship between surge speed and surge height
and the viscous force formula in flow field are applied to solve the relationship between displacement and speed of mass in water. Taking Xintan landslide as an example
we can draw the conclusion that the initial surge height increases first and then decreases
and this change is different with that of landslide speed .
