In order to prevent the lightning trip-out of transmission line effectirely
an active and fast detonation airflow arc-extinguishing device is developed
the devices are installed in parallel at both ends of the insulator. Power frequency arc is formed within the protection gap when the lightning strike on it. The lightning pulse is collected by the signal acquisition
which immediately ignites the arc-extinguishing device to produce the detonation airflow synchronously to extinguish the follow-up power frequency arc. It is obtained from the simulation results that the arc extinguishing time by detonation airflow under approximate ideal condition is shorter than 0.08 ms. The simulation results are obtained by using software AUTODYN. The experimental circuit is set up to conduct arc extinguishing test
the denotation airflow arc-extinguishing time is 0.4 ms
which can be observed by video camera. And both above-mentioned arc distinguishing times are much shorter than the response time of relay protection. Thus it is proved that the detonation airflow arc-extinguishing device has good arc-quenching characteristics.
