In order to analyze the influence of the coupling flow in the electrostatic precipitator(ESP) channel on the charged particle trapping
we analyzed the momentum coupling between ionic wind induced secondary flow and the mean flow with the consideration of space charge density distributions. Moreover
taking the zigzag plate and C-type plate as collecting plates
we simulated the electrohydrodynamic(EHD) flows in wire-plate electrostatic precipitator by employing finite volume method with the aid of user defined function(UDF) of FLUENT for two real geometrical configurations. The results show that the electrical performances and the features of the electrohydrodynamic flow are different in the two configurations; The near-plate electric intensity and its distribution in the zigzag one are better than those in the C-type
i.e.
in the vicinity of the collecting plate
the averaged field strength is higher and the field distribution is more uniform for the former
and the ionic wind induced flow is stronger in the C-type ESP than that in the zigzag type; When the mean flow velocity is increased
the ionic wind effect disappears in the zigzag channel
while in the C-type
the ionic wind will enhance the main flow
and the near-plate local vortexes become weak in the stream-wise direction. The conclusion is that the zigzag type plate effectively refrain the escape of the particles better than the C-type plate.
