Barbed discharge electrodes are widely used in the electrostatic precipitators because of their excellent discharge characteristics. To study the effects of structure and design parameters on the discharge characteristics of the barbed electrodes
four barbed discharge electrodes were selected and a test bench was built. The discharge characteristics of the barbed discharge electrodes in the aspects of discharge current density and distribution were studied
and the effects of barbed height h
pipe diameter d
distance between electrodes H on the discharge characteristics of the barbed electrodes were studied. The results show that the discharge current density of the six-nail barbed discharge electrodes is bigger and the discharge current distribution of the RS barbed discharge electrode is more uniform than the others on the same conditions. The effects of structure and design parameters of the barbed discharge electrode on the discharge characteristics can be equal to the effects of the average electrical field intensity on the discharge characteristics approximately. A quadratic function between the field intensity E and discharge current density J
the standard deviation σ for different kinds of discharge electrodes structures are concluded. The results can provide references for the design of barbed discharge electrodes
