Because the most part of the spectrum emitted by streamer is in the 300
4
00 nm band
in order to study one of the most important characteristics of streamers
we set up an experiment platform to measure the streamer propagation velocity based on photomultiplier. Two photomultipliers with two 1-mm narrow slits
respectively
in front of them were placed vertically in the axis of rod-plate
one aligning the head of rod electrode
and the other aligning some distance to the rod electrode. With the experiment platform
velocities under two situations were measured. One situation was that the rod electrode applied with a DC voltage and the streamer propagation velocity was measured under the different rod electrode radius and gap length; the other was that the rod electrode was applied with different amplit
udes of 1.2/50 μs impulse voltage and the streamer propagation velocity was measured under different amplitudes of impulse voltage. According to the measurement results
whether the applied voltage is a DC voltage or an impulse voltage
the streamer propagation velocity increases as the applied voltage increases and especially under the second occasion
in the range of 138
2
80 k V experimented impulse voltage
streamer propagation velocity also increases from 111.1 cm/μs to 222.2 cm/μs
which almost linearly increases as the applied voltage increases.
