Antipollution flashover coatings of room temperature vulcanized silicone rubber(RTV) show the characteristics of aging under the influence of environmental factors. To research the reasons that RTV coatings of glass insulators seriously peel off under the environment of high temperature and rainwater in Guangdong region
we analyzed the surface and detected aging of the insulator samples. Also
adhesion properties were tested to analyze the change of the coating’s conditions after the treatment of artificial climate environment on RTV specimens. The research reveals that the moisture absorption of hygroscopic salt contamination that intrudes into the coatings and the precipitation effect of contamination particles will greatly affect the long-term adhesion of RTV; Coatings with excessively thin thickness is easier to be affected by moisture or water and then lose adhesion
and suitable thickness is 0.4~0.6 mm. The distinct distribution of water and temperature on the upper surface of insulators makes the adhesion of central parts better than the boundary parts. There is a positive correlation between the severity of peeling off and the aging degree of RTV. Under the influences of contamination
water and heat
the loss of adhesion and aging phenomenon on RTV coatings will be accelerated. The research can provide a reference and indication for the coating and using of the RTV in high temperature and rainwater area.
