Systematic studies on the decomposition characteristics of SF
6
spark discharge under the influence of different metal materials are rarely available in the literature
and the research on the influences of metal materials on the characteristics of SF
6
spark discharge decomposition is helpful to diagnose the metal components type involved in spark discharge faults. In this paper
based on an SF
6
spark discharge experiment platform
a series tests of SF
6
spark discharge decomposition under stainless steel
aluminum and copper were carried
out.SF
6
spark discharge decomposition gases were analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry to obtain the correlation characteristics between the content of decomposition gases and the number of spark discharges. The solid products were subjected to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to obtain the elemental content of the solid products and the presence of the metal. The results show that
under different metal materials
the production amounts of CF
4
SOF

and SOF
4
show a‘linear’upward trend with the increase of spark discharge number
while SO
2
F
2
and SO
2
show an‘exponential’upward trend. The effect of metal materials on the formation of CF
4
is Fe>Cu>Al
as for sulfur-containing gases
the influence law is Al>Cu>Fe.In the solid products
the molar ratio r(Al/W)>r(Cu/W)>r(Fe/W)
which indicates that
under the action of spark discharge
Al and SF

have the greatest degree of reactivity compared with Cu and Fe.
