The particle size of catalyst has a great influence on its catalytic performance. In order to improve the performance and synthesis efficiency of the catalyst
a microwave plasma-assisted sol-gel method is proposed in this paper. A Ni/CeO

catalyst with a substance ratio of n(Ni): n(Ce)=1:10
1:20
1:100 was synthesized. The catalytic performance of the methane dry reforming was evaluated. The results show that n(Ni): n(Ce)=1:20 has the highest activity for methane dry reforming. The activity of catalyst synthesized by microwave plasma-assisted sol-gel method(n(Ni): n(Ce))=1:20) is
higher than that prepared by traditional impregnation method(n(Ni): n(Ce)=1:20) at both temperature and high air velocity. The catalysts(n(Ni): n(Ce)=1:20) synthesized by microwave plasma-assisted sol-gel method and impregnation method was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscope(SEM). XRD patterns show that the CeO2 peaks of the catalyst prepared by microwave plasma-assisted sol-gel method is higher than the catalyst prepared by the dipping method. By SEM images characterization
the catalyst particles prepared by microwave plasma-assisted sol-gel method(impregnation method) are distributed at 50~100 nm(100~150 nm)
accounting for about 41%(37%). The optical emission spectrum was also analyzed. The microwave plasma-assisted sol-gel method introduces active groups such as NH and OH and provides a quenching rate of 148 K/ms. A higher quenching rate effectively reduces the particle size and increases the activity of catalyst.
