Abstract:
On February 14, 2021, a major blackout happened in Texas due to extreme cold weather. The accident caused the loss of more than 20 GW of power load in Texas and affected about 4 million people. In this paper, we first introduced the basic situation of the Texas power grid. Then, based on the report released by ERCOT, the evolving pattern and restoration process were analyzed in detail. Moreover, a comprehensive comparison with the 2011 Texas power failure was conducted, from the perspective of their origins and evolution. Finally, in the light of the experiences drawn from the Texas outages, the future developing path for renewable energy sources was discussed, in the context of the status quo of China's power grid.
