Abstract:
On Aug. 15th, 2023, a large-scale blackout occurred in the Brazil power system. The National Interconnected System (SIN) was divided into three parts: the northern, northeastern and southeastern/midwestern/southern power grids, with the power loss of 23368MW and the longest time duration of 6 hours, which has serious impact on daily production and life. In this paper, the general situations of the Brazil power system including generation, grid and load are introduced. Then, the all-stage propagation processes of the blackout are given. On this basis, the direct causes of the blackout, as well as the deep reasons from 4 aspects such as power grid structure, power source support, technical defense and security control, are analyzed. Finally, considering the actual situations of China's power system, the correlative suggestions are proposed to guarantee safe operation of the power system under the clean and low-carbon transformation situation.
