Abstract:
Oxygen carrier (OC) is a key parameter in chemical-looping combustion technology, and it is of great importance to improve the OCs' performance. The Iron-based oxygen carrier is considered of great industrial application prospect due to its abundant reserves and low price, however, the problems such as poor attrition resistance and short life limit its application. In this study, the toughening effect and mechanism of the Al
2O
3 fiber on the lean iron ore oxygen carrier were systematically examined by attrition test experiment under different working conditions based on the fiber toughened ceramic material technology. The results show that Al
2O
3 fiber merely reduced the reactivity of oxygen carrier, but effectively improved the mechanical strength and attrition resistance of oxygen carrier with a typical fiber toughening phenomenon. By verifying the feasibility of fiber toughening in the field of chemical looping combustion, this study would provide a new idea for the improvement of OC's attrition resistance and lifetime.
