Abstract:
This study quantifies the suitability of renewable energy exploitation in Tibet by using a GIS-based multi-criteria decisionmaking method. Four criteria including energy potential, geomorphology, transportation as land use are involved in the evaluation framework. Results show that around 80% areas of Tibet could be used for exploiting renewable energies. Northwestern Tibet is suitable for solar-wind complementary exploitation and the southeast is suitable for hydro-solar combination. As for either the wind-hydro or the wind-solar-hydro hybrids, few areas are recognized.
