Abstract:
A novel single-axis solar tracking system based on a special geometry called"slope-wedge-shaft"is proposed to improve tracking effect of single-axis systems. The performance of the novel system is most close to that of a dual-axis system, although it has only one axis. In this paper, mathematical expressions of the novel system are deduced, simulation is carried out using a clear-day solar radiation model, and the results are compared with traditional single-axis tracking systems. Taking Beijing as an example, the annual collected irradiation on a novel tracked panel is higher than that on traditional single-axis tracked panels, and is 22.7% higher than that on a horizontal single-axis tracked panel. Finally,at other latitudes, the novel system is still superior to the traditional systems, and the annual irradiation collected by the novel system is about 97%-99% of that of a dual-axis system.
