Abstract:
Novel energy storage is progressively becoming a critical technology for China in constructing a new energy system and a novel power system, acting as a new engine for China’s economic growth. In tandem, research on related novel energy storage technologies is developing swiftly. A series of review paperwork are conducted, which are divided into three parts:electrochemical energy storage technology, physical energy storage and thermal storage technology, and storage scheduling and planning. It provides a comprehensive and systematic comparative analysis of the application areas, recent research advancements, and limitations of various novel energy storage technologies, while further discussing the challenges and development trends in storage system-related fields such as integration, safety, and planning and scheduling. This paper is the third part of the review work, which focuses on advances and challenges in novel energy storage technologies. It particularly emphasizes a comprehensive analysis and discussion of the technological progress in the areas of storage integration, safety, and planning, including high-voltage cascaded technology,grid-forming energy storage technology, digitalization and digital twin technology, distributed temperature monitoring technology, immersion liquid cooling technology, and efficient optimization algorithms. This demonstrates a comprehensive approach towards advancing energy storage technologies, addressing both technological and systemic challenges to ensure their effective integration and operational safety within China’s evolving energy landscape. This approach is pivotal for supporting the country’s transition towards a more sustainable and resilient energy system.
