Abstract:
In response to the complex geological conditions and physical characteristics of coal seams in China, the horizontal drilling and completion technology has been continuously studied and developed. Based on the "well factory" mode, well type optimization, reservoir protection, geosteering drilling and adaptive horizontal completion technologies have been established, gradually becoming the key measures for the efficient exploitation of coalbed methane (CBM) in China. To provide technical support for CBM horizontal drilling and completion engineering, this paper briefly reviews the research progress of domestic CBM horizontal drilling and completion technology, and focuses on the innovative research results:(1) The integrated technology of double tubular strings completion and stimulation for coal seams in horizontal wells is developed. This technology has been applied in more than 400 wells in the southern Qinshui Basin and achieved a breakthrough in technology and production; the radial cyclic load test of coal is carried out, and the formation and propagation of fractures in coal are detected by CT scanning; the calculation model of coal damage variable under radial cyclic stress is modified based on the dual pore structure, heterogeneity and multi-scale pores of coal. (2) The hydraulic driving mechanism of flexible screen pipe with inner tubing is proposed for radial horizontal completion; the tubular string structure and supporting tools are designed and optimized, and the mechanic-hydraulic coupling calculation model is established. Taking the radial horizontal well in deep coal seam as an example, the maximum install length of the two completion strings are 381 and 655 m, respectively, which provides technical guidance for screen completion of radial wells. (3) The mechanism of muti-type stimulation for horizontal well with compose liners in coal seam with complicated coal structure is expounded and the crack propagation of hydraulic fracturing with cyclic shock wave pre-cracking is numerically simulated. The production of a shut-down well is increased to 2 000 m
3/d by this technology. Finally, the key development points of CBM horizontal drilling and completion technologies are summarized. The matching technology of large well factory will become the key technology to increase the efficiency of CBM exploitation and reduce the cost. The multi-constraint trajectory optimization design and control technology are the technical guarantee for safe and rapid drilling of horizontal wells in deep coal seams. The diversified completion and stimulation techniques of horizontal wells will be an innovative mode for the efficient development of deep CBM in China.
