To address the issues of high-order coefficient matrices and slow simulation speed in electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations of power systems using the node voltage method-based network equations, this paper proposes an electromagnetic transient simulation method for power systems based on the circuit transfer matrix method.Firstly, the fundamental framework of power system simulation using the circuit transfer matrix method is presented, and the solution strategy for the chain circuit transfer matrix method is elaborated.Secondly,a reduced chain circuit transfer matrix method is derived by integrating reduction transformations to mitigate the problem of accumulated errors caused by excessive equivalent resistances of components during matrix multiplication in the original chain circuit transfer matrix method. Finally,an EMT simulation case of a transmission line is conducted to compare the circuit transfer matrix method with the node voltage method. Results demonstrate that the proposed circuit transfer matrix method significantly improves computational speed while ensuring simulation accuracy.
