In response to the lack of a unified accounting method for quantifying the carbon footprint of green hydrogen in China
this paper compares and analyzes the domestic and international standards for accounting the carbon footprint of green hydrogen. A carbon footprint quantification model covering the full life cycle
including green power production and output
electrolytic water hydrogen production
hydrogen storage
and hydrogen transportation
is established
and carbon footprint accounting is carried out on actual cases. The research results show that hydrogen production through electrolysis of water using wind power has a lower carbon emission than that of using photovoltaic power. Suggestions are also put forward
such as improving the energy efficiency of electrolyzers
optimizing the hydrogen storage and transportation processes
and increasing research and development efforts on new electrolysis technologies.
