This study is based on a quasi-2D multiphysics domain model for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs). A systematic investigation is conducted using the controlled variable method to evaluate the impact of model architecture and simulation configurations on computational efficiency. The steady-state prediction performance of the proposed model is validated through an analysis of the distribution characteristics of physical quantities
while the effects of load amplitude and loading rate on the model’s dynamic response are explored. The results demonstrate that the integrated simplification strategy for porous layers
reduction in flow channel segments
increment of time step size
and adoption of a fast acceleration mode can effectively enhance the simulation rate. Specifically
for a 15-second simulation
the computation time is reduced to 1.73 seconds
achieving an 8.67-fold acceleration. The predicted distributions of physical quantities are consistent with theoretical expectations
it is observed that larger load amplitudes and higher loading rates result in more significant voltage undershoots. This research provides valuable insights for the development of fast PEMFC simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation implementations.
