An effective solution for utilizing solid waste is the production of syngas through the co-gasification of polypropylene and biomass. In the present study
a kinetic model for the co-gasification of polypropylene and biomass was developed using ten reactiors kettles from Aspen Plus software. The gas production performance of both polypropylene and biomass was simulated numerically under oxygen and steam atmospheres. The results indicated that an increase in polypropylene improved the volume fractions of both CO and CH
while an increase in steam enhanced the volume fraction of H. The volume fraction of syngas (H+CO) increased with rising gas temperature
initially increased and then decreased with the mass fraction of polypropylene
reaching a maximum value within the range of 9% to 23%. Furthermore
as the steam-to-carbon (S/C) ratio increased
the volume fraction of syngas (H+CO) increased at temperatures of 600 ℃ to 700 ℃
but decreased slightly at temperatures of 800 ℃ to 1000 ℃. At mass fractions of polypropylene between 9% and 23%
the maximum H/CO ratio occurred at temperatures between 700 ℃ to 1000 ℃. The H/CO ratio increased with rising S/C
and its rate of increase declined with rising temperature. A reduction in the CO volume fraction was observed with increasing polypropylene
while it reached a maximum value at a temperature of 1000 ℃ and an S/C ratio of 0.2.
