Low-voltage ride-through control with positive and negative sequence voltage support for grid-forming inverters
To address issues that grid-forming (GFM) inverters cannot balance the trade-off between overcurrent suppression and voltage support during low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) under asymmetric grid faults
a LVRT control strategy that coordinates current limitation and positive-/negative-sequence voltage support is proposed. First
an equivalent network model for the positive- and negative-sequence currents of GFM inverters under asymmetric faults is established. Positive- and negative-sequence virtual impedances are introduced under the constraint of maximum phase current
thereby achieving current limiting. Second
based on the phasor relationship between the positive- and negative-sequence voltages and currents at the point of common connection (PCC)
a method for designing virtual impedance parameters based on specified positive- and negative-sequence voltage values is derived. The proposed method achieves precise support for the positive- and negative-sequence voltages at the PCC. Finally
the maximum voltage support capability achievable by the proposed strategy under stability constraints is analyzed
and principles for correcting the active power reference value during faults are presented. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of current limiting
precise voltage support
and maximizing voltage support capability during asymmetric faults.
