Frequency-adaptive coordinated control strategy for offshore wind turbines considering grid-machine coordinated safety
To coordinate grid frequency support and platform operational stability of floating offshore wind turbines
this paper proposes a frequency-adaptive coordinated control strategy. First
a relative wind speed model considering six-degree-of-freedom platform motion is established to reveal the negative-feedback coupling mechanism between wave-induced power fluctuations and frequency regulation. Second
a dual-objective adaptive controller is designed
where virtual inertia and droop coefficients are adaptively adjusted according to the rate of change and deviation of the frequency at the point-of-common-coupling. While providing rapid inertial and primary frequency support
the proposed controller reduces the adverse effect of supplementary power on platform motion
thereby improving the coordination between frequency support and platform stability. Finally
simulation results obtained from a MATLAB/Simulink-based wind farm power system indicate that the proposed strategy outperforms fixed-parameter control and model predictive control. It increases the frequency nadir to over 49.88 Hz with a recovery time of approximately 3~5 s
without significant secondary frequency dips in all simulated cases. The relative oscillation magnitudes of platform pitch and surge motions are reduced by up to 69.95% and 83.82%
respectively
while the system remains stable under extreme operating conditions. Under the designated working conditions
the proposed method optimizes the coordination of frequency support and platform stability
offering guidance for grid frequency regulation of floating offshore wind farms.
