Interphase fault location method for active distribution networks based on time-domain voltage similarity comparison
Accurate fault location is crucial for improving the power supply reliability of active distribution networks. With the integration of distributed generation (DG)
the distribution characteristics of fault electrical quantities in distribution networks have changed
leading to reduced accuracy or even failure of traditional fault location methods. To address this issue
an interphase fault location method for active distribution networks based on time-domain voltage waveform similarity comparison is proposed. The method utilizes fault components of voltage and current at both ends of the faulted line. Under an assumed fault location
the fault-point voltage in the time domain is calculated from both sides
and the similarity between the reconstructed voltage waveforms is evaluated to determine whether the assumed location is correct. When the waveform similarity does not satisfy the criterion
a bisection method is used to iteratively update the assumed fault position
gradually converging to the actual fault point and achieving accurate fault location. An active distribution network model is built in PSCAD and various fault scenarios are designed for validation. Results show that the proposed method has strong adaptability to DG integration
high location accuracy
fast convergence speed
and effectively improves the accuracy of interphase fault location in active distribution networks.
