Effect of block shape and distribution on mass transfer characteristic of hydrogen fuel cell in serpentine flow channel
Adding blocks in flow channel can effectively improve the mass transfer and drainage performance of flow channel. In order to improve the output characteristics of hydrogen fuel cell from flow field structure
the influences of the blocks of different shapes and with the same blocking volume in snake-shaped flow channel and non-uniform arrangement of block number on the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC)is quantitatively investigated
using a three-dimensional numerical analysis method. The results show that
the output performance of the channel with blocks is better than that of the conventional channel
and square blocks performs the best. When the output voltage is 0.5 V
the current density increases by 21%
but the disadvantage is that the pressure drop is too large. In addition
the worse uniformity of block arrangement
the worse output performance and the smaller pressure drop in flow channel. The gas distribution uniformity and outlet side water removal performance are improved when more blocks are arranged downstream. Reasonable blocks arrangement can improve the output performance by 4%.
