Experimental study on flow-accelerated corrosion at elbow of carbon steel at different temperatures
Flow-accelerated corrosion(FAC) issues encountered in water and water-steam mixture piping systems will cause contineous reduce of the wall thickness
which seriously affects the safety of the whole plants. In this paper
a high-temperature loop test system for FAC reflecting the actual flow combined with the array electrode technique was used to study the effect of different temperatures at elbow of No.20 carbon steel through electrochemical measurements. The results reveal that
the minimum charge transfer resistance and the maximum corrosion current density shows at the innermost and outermost positions of the elbow
respectively. When the temperature is lower than 90 ℃
the FAC performance does not change significantly. While the FAC rate increases significantly at temperature higher than 90 ℃. Moreover
the maximum FAC rate is located in the extrados side of test section.
