Jet impingement in Stirling cycle and its influence on cycle characteristics
In order to further study the characteristics of jet impingement and relative energy loss in Stirling cycle
a three-dimensional numerical simulation was carried out for a β type Stirling engine. Moreover
a Stirling engine test system was built for experimental verification. The results show that
jet impingement occurs in the process of working fluid flowing from a compression chamber to an expansion chamber
which leads to mixing of cold and hot working fluid and generating vortex. The increase of pressure enhances the mass of working fluids for a cycle
probably resulting in much uneven density distribution in the expansion chamber. The increase of rotational speed enhances the flow velocity of working fluid and leads to a stronger jet impingement. The relative error between the model and experimental data ranges from 3.58% to 7.72% for the indicated work at different pressures and rotational speeds
and it is 5.48%~9.89% for the cycle efficiency. An optimal ratio of regenerator gap length λ(0.037~0.130) is suggested by the model for a suitable cycle efficiency of the β type Stirling engine. The highest cycle efficiency can be increased by 8.32%
