Experiment and design of water recovery device of cooling tower based on ion wind principle
The large wet-type counter flow cooling tower in thermal power plant consumes 65% to 75% of the total water consumption of the entire plant. However
conventional water-saving devices that are commonly used now can only recover a small portion of the water loss. This paper studies the feasibility of recovering water from the water vapor in the cooling tower using the ion wind principle. In the laboratory
a simulated experimental device for the water recovery from water vapor in the cooling tower is established. The water recovery rate and electrical loss of a multi-lined-cylinder water collection unit are tested. The effects of parameters such as voltage
discharge electrode form
electrode height
and ground electrode material on water recovery rate are investigated. After optimizing the parameters
the water recovery rate can reach up to more than 90% in the laboratory. And on average
1.13 tons of water could be recovered per kilowatt hour. According to the optimized parameters obtained from the experiment
a honeycomb-type water collection device concept is proposed. This device has remarkable economic and environmental benefits
