In order to reveal the regularity of thunderstorms and carry out the lightning safety protection work better
a variety of mathematical statistical methods were used to analyze the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of the number of thunderstorm days in Jiujiang city from 1959 to 2013. The results show that: 1) The annual number of thunderstorm days in Jiujiang city is more in the western mountainous areas than in the areas along the river and lake. 2) From 1959 to 2013
the number of thunderstorm days in the study area as a whole showed a very significant reduction trend
with a decline rate of 0.5 d/a or so. 3) The annual number of thunderstorm days in this region began to show the abrupt transition point in the middle and late 1980 s
and entered the reduced abrupt transition state in the early 1990 s. 4) The periodic oscillation characteristics of annual change are not significant. The annual number of thunderstorm days in Jiujiang city is generally decreasing
and the number of thunderstorm days in mountainous area is more than that in low altitude area.
