Effect of Different Preparation Methods on the Removal of Elemental Mercury over Ag/AgCl Photocatalyst
Visible light responsive Ag/AgCl photocatalysts were successfully prepared by different preparation methods. The removal efficiency of elemental mercury(Hg0) from simulated flue gas over Ag/AgCl was explored in a photocatalytic reactor
A VM-3000 online mercury analyzer was employed to monitor the inlet and outlet Hg0 concentrations. To explore the physical and chemical properties of the photocatalyst
a variety of characterization methods including nitrogen adsorption/desorption
scanning electron microscopy(SEM)
X-ray diffraction(XRD)
X-ray photoelectron spectra(XPS)
and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra(DRS) were employed. The characterization results showed that compared with the photocatalyst synthesized by modified co-precipitation method
the photocatalyst prepared by precipitation-photoreduction method displayed larger the BET surface areas
total volume. Moreover
the diffraction peak and absorption spectrum intensity of the photocatalyst synthesized by precipitation-photoreduction method were enhanced. Hg0 removal tests showed that the fluorescent light irradiation had an important effect on the activity of elemental mercury removal. Under visible light irradiation
the photocatalyst prepared by precipitation-photoreduction method displayed a superior Hg0 removal efficiency and the maximum elemental mercury removal efficiency can reach as high as 92%.
