Optimization of modulation strategy and power balancing for novel nine-level inverter
There are a large number of switching tubes in the conventional asymmetric cascaded H-bridge nine level inverter
and there are problems such as current backflow and power imbalance between each stage of the connected units. Aiming at the above issues
a novel nine-level inverter topology was pro-posed. This topology reduces two switching tubes than the conventional asymmetric cascaded H-bridge nine-level inverter
but still achieves nine-level output and maintains good output voltage harmonic char-acteristics. There is no current backflow between each power unit and no voltage pulse peak problem when driving inductive loads. Its topology also has the ability to be expanded. A power balanced im-proved hybrid carrier layer modulation strategy was proposed based on this inverter
which reduced half of the low-voltage unit carrier signal and lowered the difficulty of implementing the modulation strategy. At the same time
the proposed modulation strategy achieves power balance for all DC power units in 1/4 fundamental cycle under full amplitude modulation operation
which can improve the stability of the in-verter during operation. Finally
the advantages of this inverter topology as well as the power equalization modulation strategy were demonstrated through the comparison of modeling and simulation results and the verification of experimental platform results.
