Research on Improving the Compression Ratio of Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines by Using Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Miller Cycle
Abstract
A one-dimensional model of a hydrogen internal combustion engine was built
and the effects of exhaust gas recirculation technology(EGR) and Miller cycle technology on the suppression of knocking and nitrogen oxides(NOx) generation were simulated and analyzed. At last
these technologies were combined to explore the maximum achievable compression ratio and the best NOx emission performance. The results show that EGR technology is more effective in suppressing NOx production
while the Miller cycle is more effective in suppressing knocking. Finally
the compression ratio of the internal combustion engine can be increased from 10.0 to 18.4. The efficiency is reduced by 8.0% to 44.87%. And the NOx emissions are reduced by 26.2% to 1.937g/(kW·h) at the same time.
